Ultrasonic liquid atomizers have a wide variety of applications. From medical to consumer, atomizers are incorporated into all these different applications. Some of the medical applications of atomizers include being able to administer medications in aerosol form, being able to act as humidifiers for buildings as well as micro/nanoelectronics. In terms of medical applications, the piezo ultrasonic liquid atomizer is particularly useful because the holes have to be a certain size to allow the medicine to be absorbed into the bloodstream: too small and it can’t be effective, too large it can’t be absorbed into the bloodstream. Icarus technology offers a wide range of piezo liquid atomizers from 3µm upwards.

The ultrasonic liquid atomizers Icarus provides also comes in bigger sizes designed for air fresheners and humidifiers. In these applications the hole size is bigger than 4µms thick. This is due to making sure the aerosols or water that are sprayed out are in fact not able to be absorbed into the bloodstream. These types of atomizers have various functions not just spreading fragrance but also being able to disinfect and sanitize as well. In this regard the vibrating plate atomizer is the most widely used version as it has the best combination of performance across the board. In these atomizers a piezoelectric material is immersed within a reservoir of water or any other liquid that can be turned into an aerosol and to make it vibrate an electric current is sent through it and the plate to atomize the water. To improve the accuracy of the output of the atomizer’s curved plates are used to be able to focus some of the vapor as well as the use of stepped plates to be able to time and vary the frequency and range of the dispersal of the aerosols. The piezo models provided by Icarus Technology can be driven at 3-5 VDC low voltage or via USB and through this energy saving is, on average, 90%.
